Summer Time May 14, 2012

Filed under: Uncategorized — colesbites @ 1:41 pm

The semester has been over since last week and Im currently on summer vacation! Every year seems to be more and more stressful and Im horrible when it comes to stress. Usually I break out like a 13 year old and my hair falls out like a depressed bird plucking their feathers. I feel confident with how I did in school this semester and Im just waiting on grades. Eeeks! So far I know I have two As and an A+ which I didn’t believe was possible in college. With summer comes the warmer months, tanning outside, swimming, beach time, family time and of course the vacations. This summer, unlike last summer, Im actually going away on vacation with my parents. So far we are going to Chicago and Virginia. My mom’s cousin booked sailing lessons for her and I which is something that the two of us have been talking about for a while now.

Since Ive been home, Ive actually ran Wed to Saturday and yesterday since I begged my parents last June to buy me a spin bike, I did a spinning workout. Today is one of icky rainy day and Im watching my niece for 8 hrs so when I get home, Im taking to the streets for an hour jog. Lately Ive been getting the “you’re getting skinny again” “you’re losing too much weight.” Personally, I think Im fine weight wise, however I know Im not eating nearly enough for a 20 year old female who is 5’9″ and works out 6-7 days a week.

What have I been up to? Im actually trying to find a summer job but Ive taken to being a Guinea Pig and testing products for cash. I’ve also picked up my guitar and learned a few chords, and a few songs that Ive pretty much mastered. I mean most of the songs are three to four chords which is what a typical song is but some songs in which I though would be simple ended up having quiet a few chord changes and were just too complicated for a beginner player. I really want to play better so I can play on a Martin Guitar which if you haven’t heard of, you’re obviously not into music or guitar playing. All I have to say is that a Martin Guitar is how a guitar should sound if you strum it and feel the vibrations on your body.

Yesterday, was mother’s day. And I took it upon myself to throw together a nice day out for my mom. I need up going to Costco and picking up a gift card to a place not to far from my brother’s house called Bensi’s and being the nice person that I can, invited my brother, sister-in-law and niece out to brunch with us. My mom was really impressed and surprised with the day out. For a brunch, it wasn’t too bad. I eat like a bird so I had fresh fruit, three slices of tomato and a slice of fresh mozzarella and 1/2 a plain egg white omelet and coffee. Yumm!

Eating wise: Today Ive consumed a fage 0% greek yogurt and coffee with some almond milk. Probably not nearly enough but its still early in the day.

Every year, children, young and old alike, are on a mission to find the perfect gift for their mom for Mother’s Day. I know my mom loves Bath and Body Works and jewelry. And like most women, she loves chocolate.

I was excited to receive a Mother’s Day Four Pack sampler of gourmet popcorn from Dale and Thomas. (As I am away at college, my parents and brother sorta tried them out for me).

Chocolate Chunk n’ Caramel: The caramel that coats each and every perfect popped piece of popcorn is buttery and rich. Then Dale and Thomas answers any chocolate lovers wishes and added rich decedent chocolate.

Image

Peanut Butter and White Chocolate Dizzlecorn: (As I have an allergy to peanuts, this review is based from my parent and brother.)  This popcorn had a light yet rich decedent peanut butter taste. It wasn’t too overly sweet or contained a strong peanutty flavor. It was a shockingly sweet treat.

Image

White Cheddar and Black Peppercorn: This combination is how I imagine the rich enjoy popcorn the movie theater.  Light and fluffy with a nice crunch factor.  This flavor is covered in Land O’ Lakes creamy, aged white cheddar cheese, fresh cracked peppercorns and clarified butter.  A bite of heaven!

Hall of Fame Kettle Corn: A sweet and salty. A reminder of summer county fairs. Dale and Thomas uses a hint of pure cane sugar and sea salt to finish off this amazing tasting guilt-free treat.

Spring break March 16, 2012

Filed under: Uncategorized — colesbites @ 3:53 pm

One week into spring break and I feel like I’ve accomplished quite a bit and boy did this break fly by! Last Saturday, I went to a St. Patty’s Day parade which ended up being really nice and the weather was really nice. I woke up early that day and ran about an hour.  I had a very sad attempt at a 5 mile run on Sunday. MAinly because of day light savings time and the hour less of sleep. Monday I ran for a bit and then rode my spin bike for a good 45 minutes while watching Desperate house wives. Tuesday was an easy workout and I was suppose to see John Carter but ended up babysitting and making $30. Wednesday, my dad took a day off from work and my parents and I drove to Nazareth PA to the Martin guitar factory. Martin guitars are all handmade and ridiculously expensive with the cheapest guitar not even made out of wood getting $600 to the limited made rosewood with mother of pearl guitar at a price of $109,000. For a free tour and the chance to play a $60,000 guitar, it was worth it. Its amazing to see real handcrafted all American products being made. Obviously, my dad being such a musician, I mean I am as well, but my dad really enjoys playing the guitar and he plays it well is deeply considering buying a Martin. Yesterday and today I watched my niece and boy she’s getting so big. She’s already crawling and standing. Soon she’ll be walking soon. Tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day which means not corned beef for me but cabbage, carrots and maybe a potato.  Hope all is going well!

A leap of faith February 29, 2012

Filed under: Uncategorized — colesbites @ 6:01 pm

Once every four years, February has an extra day. Companies usually give away something for free or have some sort of one day sale. To me, its just a day really. One more shot to make it could, maybe run a little harder or sleep a little longer. I always feel that the beginning of each month is like a fresh slate. A chance to make a change in your life.

Aside from that, Lent recently started last Wednesday. The past few years I would I’ve up sweets but when I come to think of it, I very rarely eat them anyways anymore. Instead of giving up gum, coffee or diet soda, which I’m trying to cut back on, I decided to be more positive and look for the future. We should take care of ourselves and stop beating ourselves up over silly things in life. I tend to be way to critical of myself, like many people are. I tend to over analyze things in life, how I’m do in school, how I look, if I fit in, and by worrying and stressing over things like this takes the joy out of life.

Spring break begins next Friday already but today it doesn’t quite feel that way. I like being home since Im rarely there anymore but I do enjoy the freedom of living on my own away at college.

Getting to the eat: my typical breakfast is oatmeal with almond milk and a banana, lunch is always soup and a cup of vegetables and dinner is the exact same thing as lunch. SO boring, I know. Come spring break, it will change as my options are varied a lot more than at school.

Valentine Chocolate Delight from Dale and Thomas Popcorn February 2, 2012

Filed under: Uncategorized — colesbites @ 3:12 am

Can you believe it’s February already? Which means that Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and girls tend to receive the typical chocolate and jewelry from her significant other. Today, I received a six-bag Valentine’s day sample from Dave and Thomas’s popcorn. The gourmet popcorn is stuffed into a beautiful Valentine’s Day box which I did not expect and defiantly would make a great Valentine’s day gift for anyone. The popcorn is gluten free and kosher and each bag contains 2-4 servings.

In this particular six-bag set, Chocolate Delight, I received the following flavors:
– Peanut Butter & White Chocolate DrizzleCorn: Chocolate and peanut butter is one top of just about everyone’s go to indulgence as side from those who are allergic to peanuts. A unique combination of smooth white chocolate and creamy rich peanut butter drizzled on light fluffy popcorn provide the ultimate guilt-free indulgence without being too overpowering.
– Twice-As-Nice Chocolate DrizzleCorn: A chocoholic’s dream tends to be any type of chocolate, but the more the merrier. Dale and Thomas’s twice-as-nice packs milk chocolate and white chocolate drizzle onto popcorn. The two types of chocolate hit the spot and are not too overpowering but rather satisfying to the palate.
– Cinnamon Creme DrizzleCorn: Hot, sweet sticky and savory cinnamon treats. No it’s not an 800 calorie Cinnabun but popcorn dusted and drizzled with brown sugar and cinnamon with a layer of white chocolate drizzle. A guilt-free way to enjoy a Cinnabun like treat without all the calories and fat but with the unique popcorn twist.
– Black & White Biscotti: Decant caramel dipped popcorn covered in dark chocolate and white chocolate. A rich and crunchy guilt-free snack thats perfect alone or with an Italian coffee or espresso.
– Double Chocolate DrizzleCorn: Who doesn’t love chocolate? Add not one but two types of chocolate: semi-sweet and chocolate fudge onto a sweet and salty kettle corn popcorn and its sure to make one’s mouth water. Sure to be a real hit for any chocolate lover.
– Dark Fudge with Praline Almonds: A rich delicious snack that packs dark chocolate and almonds into a unique guilt-free snack thats bound to be a favorite among chocolate and nut lovers alike.

New Year, New You January 4, 2012

Filed under: Uncategorized — colesbites @ 4:45 pm

A new year has emerged which means new years resolutions. I finished my third semester at college and I can say I didn’t do too bad. Defiantly a lot better than last year. I ended up with three As and 2 Bs. My new years resolution is to get better grades, focus on my school work more, continue to work out and get into the best shape of my life and of course continue to blog. I’m trying to come up with better ideas formy blog andhow to appeal and attract to more people.

The past few weeks have been tough for me but I’ve been able to keep up with exercise and Im trying to eat three healthy meals. Its easy for me to fill up on coffee and not eat which isn’t the smartest thing to do. Instead of having coffee first thing in the morning, Ive been making and drinking smoothies. Lunch has been boca burgers and veggies with the giant cup of coffee and dinner seems to vary from day to day. Boring, I know. Its very easy while Im home to get into a rut but Im working on getting out of that. Instead of focusing on counting calories, Im putting that energy toward my online winter class which Im doing very well in and reading books. I picked up One for the Money and so far I love it.
