Once on Broadway July 19, 2012

Filed under: Uncategorized — colesbites @ 2:01 pm

A few weeks ago, I went with my parents to see the Tony winning broadway show Once! Before the show, I only heard a few reviews about the show as well as the bar on stage. Before the show and during the intermission, the stage turns into a bar where you can buy water, soda, beer, or wine and the cast comes out to play a pre-show song. It’s defiantly an experience!

Once is a play about Guy and Girl, the main characters and what they are referred to throughout the entire production, who both have a bittersweet love story of their loves being with other people or absent from their lives. Over the course of the show, meet each other and connect through their music. The costumes and set is very simple but the songs and story line seems to be the pull factor that draws the audience in from the very beginning until curtain close. The two leads excel at the telling of the story as well as being great musicians. Each member of the cast plays at least one musical instrument unlike most broadway shows where there is an orchestra and the actors simply sing each song. One feature of the play that really drew me in was that Martin Guitars sponsors the play and donated a few guitars for the musicians to play.

I would recommend this to just about anyone who love music or broadway. There is some adult language usage, i.e use of the “F” word quite a bit, but other than that, its fairy mild and not a play that I would take young children to see.

This past week, my parents and I went on a little vacation. First of three for the summer. We ended up heading down to good ole Virginia and DC. Ive only been to Arlington so this time, we headed to the Shenandoah Valley. The first day we went to Luray Caverns in Luray, VA. What a sight!

The second day, we went into the town of Front Royal, VA. It was a quant little town. Full of old dusty antique stores and boy were they pricey! Basically its in the middle of nowhere in between the Blue Ridge Mountains and to get to the middle of town, takes a good 20 minutes.

The third and fourth day, we headed into DC and hit up a few of the museums. Before I knew it, we were headed back to NJ. What should have taken 4.5 hours, ended up taking 7 due to rain and stand still traffic near Baltimore. Im glad to be back home!

Be Active…everyday May 23, 2012

TV, video games, and internet. Its easy to be lazy and catch up on the latest gossip and TV but in the long run, its only going to do more harm then good.

I don’t have time to exercise. Most people spend an average of 3 hours a day in front of the TV or computer. Durning commercials is the easiest way to sneak in some exercise instead of reaching for a snack. How? Easy really. Do crunches, pushups, leg lifts, lift weighs, squats or jog in place. With each commercial break being around two minutes and a minimum of 9 breaks, its an easy way to get in 18 minutes for every one hour of TV watching. With the average person watching close to 3 hours of TV a day, thats 54 minutes of exercise or almost an hour!

The bottom line is, there is absolutely no reason for anyone to sit stagnant for an extended period of time. Every little bit of activity or movement can help you in the long run. So be active, everyday even if its for ten minutes at a time or during commercials.

Mediterranean Snacks Lentil Crackers

Filed under: Uncategorized — colesbites @ 1:05 am

Mediterranean Snacks are gluten-free, all natural and high protein snacks. Their products are non-GMO and creates snacks to satisfy even the most health-conscious food enthusiast.

Rosemary Herb lentil crackers were light and surprisingly refreshing. They had an interesting taste to them that sort of tastes like rosemary mixed with a bunch of herbs.

Cracker Pepper lentil crackers that were actually much better than I thought. The pepper flavor wasn’t too strong or overpowering and really worked well with the lentil’s natural flavor.

Sea Salt lentil crackers were light and crunchy. At first I didn’t know what to expect from a cracker made from chickpeas but after the first bite, they seems more like chips than crackers. I really enjoyed them.

The Better Chip May 15, 2012

Filed under: Uncategorized — colesbites @ 5:35 pm

The other day, I relieved a package in the mail from The Better Chip. When I opened up the box, I found a pink shirt, a reusable bag and 8 bags of chips, sweet onion, corn, jalapeño and red pepper. Each flavor is made from whole grain corn masa, 40% fresh veggies and  sea salt or natural seasoning as well as gluten free. These chips are made with 100% natural ingredients, not genetically modified, and no preservatives or cholesterol.

The Jalapeño and sea salt flavor had a nice kick to them. Each chip is hardy, double thick chips, crunchy and full of flavor. A 1oz serving of 10 chips has 130 calories, 6g of fat, 16g of carbs, 2g of fiber and 2 g of protein.

The sweet onion and white cheddar had a hardy, crunchy texture and a sweet but not overly powering onion flavor that I actually liked. I also liked the hint of cheesy goodness in every chip. This was by far my favorite flavor. Each serving of 10 chips has 130 calories, 6g of fat, 16g of carbs, 2g of fiber and 2g of protein.

Corn flavor: Usually corn chips are not GMO free since corn tends to be one of those ingredients in which farmers use tons of pesticide to kill weeds and gmo seeds can withstand the use of pesticides and weed killers. These chips are made with non-gmo corn which i liked. The flavor of these corn flavored chips were amazing and the double-thick tortilla chips added a great crunch factor. Each serving of 10 chips has 130 calories, 6g of fat, 16g of carbs, 2g of fiber and 2g of protein.

Red pepper and salsa fresco: These red pepper flavored tortilla chips tasted as if there was a hint of salsa on them without actually having any dip on them. Each chip was sweet and savory with the salsa fresco actually being made with fresh bell peppers to aid in the taste. Each serving of 10 chips has 130 calories, 6g of fat, 16g of carbs, 2g of fiber and 2g of protein.
